Liberia’s Argic. Ministry to Benefit Technical Assistance…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Agriculture Ministry is set to benefit huge technical assistance from the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).

It followed high-level discussions between the Liberian Government and AGRA in Monrovia to enhance food production in Liberia.

AGRA is an African-led and African-based institution with its Headquarters in Kenya, dedicated to advancing agricultural transformation across the continent.

Speaking to ELBC on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, former Ethiopia Prime Minister and Chair of AGRA Board of Directors Hailemariam Boshe, thanked the government for ongoing strides to address hunger.

Mr. Boshe said:” Liberia will address the issue of low food production, evidenced by the formulation of the National Agriculture Development Plan, and ongoing efforts to utilize the country’s fertile soil.

AGRA also wants the Liberian Government to allocate ten percent of the country’s national budget to the Agriculture Sector.

According to Mr. Boshe, increased budgetary allocation will help the Liberian Agriculture Ministry to achieve its goals.

He, however, assured AGRA’s steadfast commitment to work along with Liberia to increase food production, generate employment, and attract investment.

The Chair of AGRA Board of Directors, Hailemariam Boshe’s statement was contained in a release from the Ministry of Agriculture, at the end of discussions with the ministry to enhance food security in Liberia.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Alexander Nuetah reaffirmed the Liberian Government’s commitment to create conducive environment for development to thrive.

Dr. Nuetah expressed deep gratitude to the Board of Directors of AGRA for the partnership.

According to him, the Liberian government is happy with the mutual relationship between Liberia and AGRA.

The agriculture minister said,” Such endeavor, when considered by development partners, will also increase income generation and improve the economy of Liberia.”
