MONROVIA, LIBERIA- President Joseph Boakai wants Liberians to do away with division and forge a society grounded in justice, inclusion, and mutual respect for all.

President Boakai said,” It is about time that citizens see Unification Day, May 14, each year as a time for sober reflection to heal historic divides and promote national cohesion for the growth of Liberia.”

“Though the country and its citizens have made significant strides in consolidating peace, rebuilding resolutions and restoring hope in the country’s democratic arena, more has to be done”, he said.

The Liberian Leader noted that as part of forging the spirit of peace and reconciliation, he, early on Wednesday morning, made a telephone call to both former Liberian leaders and other political leaders in the country.

At the same time, President Boakai has congratulated House Speaker Richard Koon on his election as Speaker of the 55th National Legislature of the House of Representatives.

President Boakai said,” I acknowledge the peaceful resolution made by members of the House of Representatives on electing a new speaker, following several months of leadership standoff.”

He is urging Speaker Koon to lead with courage, inclusiveness, and humility by ensuring that the House focuses clearly on the work for which the citizens elected its members.

President Boakai, at the same time, acknowledged the steps taken by the former House Speaker, Cllr. Fonati Koffa, on his resignation as Speaker amid the impasse which lasted for months in the National Legislature.

The Liberian Leader described the former Speaker’s decision as a significant impact, which brought the long impasse to closure, renewing the spirit of the Liberian Government to serve with honor and urgency.

President Joseph Boakai’s congratulatory message was contained in his message to citizens on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, the observance of National Unification Day.
