Nat’l Minimum Wage Board of Liberia Convenes Two-day Strategic Workshop…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Minimum Wage Board of Liberia, under the Ministry of Labor, has convened a two-day strategic workshop to reveal and improve Liberia’s current minimum wage for Private Sector workers in Kakata, Margibi County.

The Director of Minimum Wage, Jerome Kollie, said:” The meeting demonstrates a commitment to fair labor practices, social justice, and the well-being of workers.”

Director Kollie said since the passage of the Decent Work Act in 2025, the minimum wage of one hundred forty-three US dollars and ninety-three dollars for formal and informal sectors have not been reviewed.

The Minimum Wage Board Director iterated that setting a baseline of income will ensure that hard working individuals are recognized and compensated with dignity and respect, which will improve the standard of living for workers and foster a more motivated workforce.

Director Jerome Kollie said:” The move will reduce poverty, promote income security and reduce salary disparities.”

Meanwhile, the Assistant Minister for Administration at the Labor Ministry, Rufus Freeman, said:” The current economic realities faced by workers in the Private Sector should be considered and ensure that improvements are made.”

Assistant Minister Freeman urged all delegates to deliberate and resolve on points that seeks to promote the government’s national agenda that seeks to improve the economic standards of citizens.

He emphasized that the Minimum Wage Board should take keen interest in the qualifications of workers through their discussions in order to promote fair practices.

The Assistant Labor Minister said,” Workers in the Private Sector are faced with a lot of challenges, and the Board should proffer solutions that will mitigate such challenges.”

Minister Rufus Freeman spoke when he served as a proxy for the Labor Minister, Cllr. Cooper Kruah at the opening of a two-day workshop on the revision of the minimum wage.
