MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Special Envoy on Cultural & Heritage Diplomacy, Lorenzo Witherspoon, is calling on Africans for renewed commitment to make the continent a hub of scientific research and innovation.

According to Ambassador Witherspoon, Africa has been in the forefront of scientific discoveries, yet the continent’s narrative in science and innovation remains overshadowed by other continents.

The French Envoy wants African leaders to join hands in reshaping the narrative of the continent for the betterment of all.

Ambassador Witherspoon was speaking on Monday, May 19, 2025, when he served as the keynote speaker at the start of Africa week organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The program is being held under the theme “Global Solidarity for the Resolution of African Heritage through Education, Culture, and Sciences.”
