MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Internal Affairs has embarked upon the establishment of County Development Planning Units across the fifteen counties of Liberia.
The establishment of the units is consistent with Chapter 5.1 of the Local Government Law to be supervised by a County Development Officer appointed by the President of Liberia.
According to Assistant Internal Affairs Minister for Research and Development Planning, Emmanuel Whenyou, the County Development Planning Officer is charged with the responsibility of development planning, project proposal, and project management, including monitoring and evaluation.
The Officer is to ensure inclusive development planning involving men, women, young people, persons living with disabilities, and marginalized groups.
Mr. Whenyou disclosed that as part of the process leading to the establishment of the Units, the ministry, with support from partners under the Liberia Decentralization Support Program, undertakes an onboarding training involving superintendents, development, finance, administrative, and communication officers, and at least five technical staff who will work in the Units when established.
Meanwhile, Mr. Whenyou disclosed that five additional counties are currently participating in the onboarding training in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, which will bring to ten the number of counties already covered.
Assistant Minister Emmanuel Whenyou said:” Upon the completion of the Buchanan training, a statement will be made establishing the County Development Planning Units, bringing their total number to ten.”
