Vice Pres. Koung Terms Women Absolute Owners of the World…

by Edward Tamba

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Vice President Jeremiah Koung has termed women as the absolute owners of the world, without whom the human race would have been no more.

The Liberian Vice President recognized the crucial roles women have and continue to play in giving birth to every human being, and in the national developmental decision-making globally and in Liberia, particularly.

Given the enormous role of women in the democratic processes, Vice President Koung wants more women’s participation in politics and national decision-making.

Speaking at the induction of the Women’s Legislative Caucus on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, May 27, 2029, Vice President Koung challenged both Speaker Richard Koon and Pro-Temp Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence to champion initiatives that promote women’s empowerment through the National Legislature.

Vice President Jeremiah Koung pledged President Joseph Boakai and the Liberian Government’s total commitment to women’s empowerment, gender equality, and support to the Women’s Legislative Caucus.

For her part, the UN Women Country Representative, Comfort Lamptey, wants the Women’s Legislative Caucus to ensure that women’s voices are at the center of discussions and decision-making.

Madam Lamptey committed the UN Women agency’s absolute support to the Caucus in advocating for issues that elevate women’s empowerment and agenda.

She quickly pointed out the limited seats occupied by women in the National Legislature, calling for prompt action and intentional support toward women in increasing their voices through the election processes.

Madam Lamptey emphasized that the limited number of seats for women means that their voices are not always reflected in national decision-making processes that directly promote gender equality.

The UN Women Country Representative reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to working closely and supporting the Women’s Legislative Caucus and other women’s groups in pushing for gender equality and empowerment in Liberia.

Meanwhile, the new Chair of the Women’s Legislative Caucus, Margibi County Representative Ellen Attoh-Wreh, has vowed that her leadership will set clear objectives that promote and support women’s voices and agenda.

Madam Attoh-Wreh vowed to champion gender equality, ensure women’s full participation in political decision-making, and bring women’s voices into legislation.

According to Representative Attoh-Wreh, the current trend of limited women’s participation reflects structural barriers that have hampered and limited women.

She called for the strict implementation of international protocols that promote equality for all women.

During her tenure as Chair of the Women’s Legislative Caucus, Representative Attoh-Wreh vowed to strengthen the National Legislature by ensuring gender sensitivity lawmaking.

Representative Ellen Attoh-Wreh also vowed to champion laws that support gender parity, reinforce advocacies for gender sensitive budgeting.
