MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia is participating in a voting proceeding today, Tuesday, to occupy a UN Security Council Non-Permanent Seat.
Hence, the Foreign Ministry has announced an Open Watch Party of the voting proceedings that will be held at Cecil Dennis Auditorium in Monrovia, beginning at 1:00 PM.
The occasion, according to a release, is to allow members of the public, the diplomatic corps, international partners, and present and former officials of the Liberian Government to witness a significant democratic process through a live broadcast of the voting proceedings.
The Foreign Ministry release added that the event underscores the government’s commitment to transparency, civic engagement, and the strengthening of democratic institutions.
Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti is quoted in the release as saying the event is an opportunity for Liberians and members of the international community to come together in the spirit of transparency, unity, and cooperation.
Invitees include current and former government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations and missions and civil society organizations, and the public.
At the same time, prominent Liberian Artist Jonathan Lee-Pratt, alias Jzyno, wants Liberians to embrace the momentous opportunity as Liberia goes to election on Tuesday, June 3, for a Non-Permanent Seat on the UN Security Council.
According to Jzyno, Liberia stands ready to lead and contribute to global peace, justice, and cooperation, benefiting not only Africa but all of humanity.
In a social media post, the Artist said,” The seat is not just another position, but the most global opportunity that symbolizes how far the nation has come from broken streets to rebuilding dreams.”
Jzyno also implored every Liberian, regardless of their affiliations, to unite in this historic endeavor.
He said the nation’s bid belongs to every Liberian, including the market women, teachers, youth, elders, peacemakers, and survivors of the civil conflict.
The Artist also stressed the need for the nation to showcase to the world that Liberia is not merely seeking a seat at the table; it is offering leadership grounded in experience, resilience, and hope.
For his part, the Executive Director of Liberia Think Tank, Amos Williams, wants Liberians to get attired in any of the national colors in celebration of Liberia’s participation in the voting exercise for a Non-Permanent Seat on the UN Security Council.
Mr. Williams said,” This will send a strong message of support of unity from citizens in affirmation for the country’s UNSC Candidacy.
According to him, Liberia’s bid is a historic and strategic opportunity to reassert the country’s voice in global peace and security matters.
He noted that Liberia, as a nation, has just transitioned from conflict to peace through democratic governance, and therefore, Liberia’s candidacy represents not just national pride but a symbol of Africa’s resilience, good governance, and leadership.
Liberia’s bid has developed significant backing, including endorsements from the African Union (AU) and ECOWAS.
The campaign has also received bipartisan support from former Presidents Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and George Weah, highlighting a unified national effort to elevate Liberia’s standing on the global stage.
