MONROVIA, LIBERIA-There are reports that President Joseph Boakai may not extend Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyeneh Yuoh’s term at the Supreme Court of Liberia beyond the June 26 end of term.

Chief Justice Yuoh is reportedly seeking additional time to enable her to render judgment in proceedings entertained by her before meeting her retirement age of seventy.

The Chief Justice’s three years at the Judiciary, according to ELBC Judicial Reporter, will end her legal business on June 26 this year, consistent with Article 72 (b) of the 1986 Constitution.

The law states, “The Chief Justice and the Associate Justices of the Supreme Court and judges of the Subordinate Courts of record shall be retired at the age of seventy.”

It further stated, “A Justice and Associates of the Supreme Court may continue in office for as long as deemed necessary to enable them to render judgment or perform any other judicial duty regarding proceedings entertained by them before reaching the retirement age.”

Sources within the Judiciary confided in our reporter that President Joseph Boakai is considering the second paragraph of the Constitution to end Chief Justice Yuoh’s lawful stay at the Supreme Court, as she clocks 70 on June 26, 2025.
