Liberia’s Resounding Victory to the UN Security Council, a Watershed That Must Be Cherished by All

by Victor D. Kezeler

There is a political postulate that those who make kings are most often downplayed by the Kingship.

But this seems not to be the case with Liberia, Africa’s oldest independent nation and founding member of the UN and other regional bodies, including the AU.

The West African state is renowned for its role in maintaining global peace and security and the promotion of trade.

So, as the kingmaker, Liberia has changed the narrative with a resounding victory of 181 votes to secure a seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Tuesday’s victory for Liberia speaks volumes about the country’s capability and strong will to be the voice of Africa, and by extension, the globe for the maintenance of peace, security, sustainable growth, and development.

So, following the pronouncement on Tuesday that Liberia has won the elective post for 2026-2027, the nation is in a jubilant mood in appreciation of the landmark victory.

Scores of congratulatory messages began pouring in from regional bodies, the diplomatic community, and stakeholders in Liberia.

Liberia stands at the gates of history, yearning to accrue huge benefits for its people and even those from other countries of the world.

Therefore, we at the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) say hats off to the campaign committee for Liberia’s bid to the world body, especially to Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, whose unwavering push translated the votes into absolute victory.

Also, to member countries of the regional bodies, AU, ECOWAS, MRU, and other friendly nations of the world, whose trust in Liberia consummates this golden opportunity to serve.

Let us also hasten to say bravo! To Liberia’s former Presidents and other authorities for supporting the campaign.

Now that the die is cast, it behooves every well-meaning Liberian to stand with the country as it takes its seat early next year in shouldering its responsibility for the common good of the world.

Let us put aside our differences and collaborate in pushing Mama Liberia to nobler heights.

Liberia is all we have, and as such, no individual interest must supersede the interest of the country.

We must embrace the level of development currently ongoing across the country and join ranks with the government to improve the livelihood of the citizenry.

They that have ears, let them hear and take cue from the President’s slogan of “Think, Love, and Build Liberia”, using the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

This has been an ELBC Commentary titled:” Liberia’s resounding victory in the UN Security Council, a watershed moment that must be cherished by all.”
