MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Bureau of Veteran Affairs has disclosed plans to thoroughly evaluate all women claiming to be widows of ex-soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
Over three-thousand women, claiming to be widows, have long been demanding the Liberian Government to pay them pensions of their late husbands.
The Director General of the Bureau, Retired Col. Edwin Goodridge, disclosed that the vetting which begins this Thursday, February 25, 2022, at Star Base on Bushrod Island, was authorized by the Ministry of State.
He said: “The exercise is geared towards ensuring that the women substantiate their claims of being widows of officers, enlisted men, and wartime recruits of the AFL.”
Retired Col. Goodridge added that after the vetting process, a database will be created for all widows of deceased soldiers, as government works out modalities to improve their livelihoods.
