MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has imposed a Ninety Day Moratorium on Liberians seeking Domestic Service Employment abroad.

The decision was taken amid reports of hundreds of Liberians, mainly women, being trafficked to the Middle East.

The Head of the Liberian Anti-Human Trafficking Taskforce, Charles Gibson, announced the decision on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in Monrovia.

Cllr. Gibson said:” The move is intended to prevent Liberians from slavery conditions they continue to suffer in the Middle East, particularly in Oman and Dubai.”

He said it is evident that traffickers are taking advantage of people’s desperate search for employment opportunities in foreign countries.

The Moratorium also coincided with the repatriation of twenty-five of the more than fifty Liberian women trafficked in Oman.

It was contained in Standing Order Number Three, signed by Labor Minister Charles Gibson and Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean.
