RIVER GEE COUNTY, LIBERIA-The President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has extoled the Liberian media, for their accomplishments in the discharge of their duties.
Mr. Charles Coffey told journalists to keep working diligently, and to realize that their good works are not going unnoticed around the world.
He spoke Tuesday, May 4, 2022, in an ELBC interview on the sideline of the celebration of World Press Freedom Day, in Fish Town in River Gee County.
Mr. Coffey wants the Liberian Media to also realize that they are not operating in isolation, but as an integral part of the comity of global media.
He urged the media in Liberia to, at all times, brace themselves for future challenges, including those connected to technology.
The PUL Boss also said:” I am certain that the global observance of World Press Freedom Day will culminate into cohesion and unity in the Liberian media.”
For her part, the President of the Reporters Association of Liberia, Cecelia Clarke, outlined challenges facing the local media, including low wages by employers, and harassment mainly from politicians.
Madam Clarke reminded fellow reporters that as the clock ticks toward the 2023 General Elections, bullying will be a common scare tactic politicians will employ to fend off reporters.
Madam Cecelia Clarke, however, urged reporters to stand tall at all times, and never yield to such scare tactics.
