MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah commenced a week-long tour of Montserrado County to climax the nationwide tour which began in February last year.
President Weah began with a town hall meeting in Logan Town, District 15, on Monday, August 15, 2022, after arriving to a traditional welcome.
Presenting a petition on behalf of the youth, the District Youth Vice Chair, Dorcas Doe, called for additional court to adjudicate rape cases emanating from the area.
Ms. Doe also advocated for the construction of a vocational training center in the District and taxes to be removed on sanitary pads on the market.
Also speaking, Madam Mary Teh, representing women of the District, appealed for empowerment such as the provision of loan for market women.
Madam Teh said:” Though the District Representative, Abu Kamara, is trying his best, it is important to seek the President‘s support.”
In a related development, President Weah has ordered Commerce Minister Mawine Diggs to work out modalities to remove taxes on sanitary pads.
The President’s order was in response to a petition by citizens of District 15, at the town hall meeting.
According to the Liberian Leader, the request is genuine and deserves the attention of Government.
He also disclosed plans by Government to construct a modern John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital that will address the growing health needs of citizens, adding that the new hospital will be built at the same location.
He then promised to work closely with the District Representative, Abu Kamara, for the construction of a modern park in the District.
President Weah said:” A loan scheme for market women, construction of a court and administrative building as requested by citizens will also be considered.”
