MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Education Minister Ansu Sonii has disclosed that the Ministry has completed the reconstruction of eighty schools, out of one-hundred-fifty-six Government-run high schools in the Country.
Minister Sonii said:” As a result of the reconstruction and refurbishment, enrolment has increased massively at the various public schools.”
He said schools of the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) are among schools renovated by the Liberian Government and partners.
Minister Sonii said besides the ongoing renovation works, the Government and partners planned to build additional twenty schools, beginning November this year.
In another development, the Ministry of Education has instituted a national taskforce to clampdown on the arbitrary hike in the tuition of private schools in the Country.
The Ministry said it will not hesitate to revoke the operational licenses of any school found liable for unjustifiable tuition hike.
Deputy Education Minister, Latim Da-thong said:” While the Ministry does not determine private school fees, it will allow schools to rob struggling parents.”
Minister Da-Thong said the Ministry will be very vigorous in its ongoing inspections, to ensure parents are not left at the mercy of school administrators.
He said increasing tuitions and other fees should be aligned with facilities and physical learning environment of the institutions.
