MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has termed a video on the social media relating to the state of affairs of Liberia’s security as fake, horrible intentionally and verifiably false.
PUL President Charles Coffey said:” Such fake news is intended to manipulate people’s perceptions of the real facts of peace and stability in Liberia.”
He said the content of the news is known by its promoter to be false, based on facts that are demonstrably incorrect, or situation that did not happen.
According to Mr. Coffey, the video is fabricated information that mimics news media content in form, but lacks editorial norms for ensuring accuracy and credibility of the information.
He urged media institutions and individual journalists to watch out for fake news stories, by unscrupulous individuals who want to use the media to cause havoc and panic among Liberians.
Meanwhile, the PUL President is commanding the media for handling the fake video, with caution in line with professional standards.
