MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government and Partners are to shortly convene a major conference on Forest and Climate Resilience in Monrovia, from October 5 to 6 this year.
The Forest and Climate Resilience forum will highlight and proffer solutions to mitigating climate change and also highlight significance of the forests to livelihood.
Speaking to ELBC Thursday, September 22, 2022, the National Coordinator of the REDD Implementation Unit, Saah David, said:” the forum will also draw attention to the state of Liberia’s forests and the benefits it offers the Country and the World.”
He said Liberia maintains over forty percent of the remaining upper Guinea Forest, making it a hotspot for biodiversity in the World.
Mr. David added that it is even more compelling for Government to now begin to accrue some massive benefits from its vast forests, owning to the role being played in mitigating global climate change.
He maintained that Liberian forests have huge potential and people who are forest depended must now begin to feel its impact.
