Roberts International Airport undergoes Technical Rehabilitation

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia Civil Aviation Authority Director General has disclosed ongoing technical rehabilitation at the Roberts International Airport.

Director Moses Kollie said:” The technical work will see the issues of power outage and flight safety at the runway addressed, upon its completion soon.”

He was speaking in an interview with ELBC on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.

The Liberia Civil Aviation Authority Director General stated that through the intervention of President Weah, new equipment was procured to begin intensive servicing by November this year.

On the issue of power outage, Mr. Kollie said two new generators, seven-hundred-fifty KVA each, has arrived in Country and will be installed on Friday, October 21, 2022.

He said his presentation at the International Civil Aviation Organization conference in Canada has resulted to other airlines expressing interests in making Liberia a destination.

Meanwhile, Atty. Augustine Tamba, the Liaison between Liberia and ICAO, said recent audit conducted on Liberia’s aviation sector reflected two significant safety concerns.

Atty. Tamba, also Technical Head at the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, named the two safety concerns as the Airport’s approach design procedure and problematic equipment.

 

In an interview with ELBC Tuesday, October 18, 2022, he confirmed an initial payment by the Government of Liberia to procure flight calibration system and conduct a survey.

He stated that the survey on the current state of affairs of the RIA is expected to commence early November.

The International Civil Aviation Organization–Liberia Liaison said findings from the survey will be shared with both the Government and the organization to inform future decisions.
