MONROVIA, LIBERIA-United States Ambassador to Liberia, Michael McCarthy, has confirmed Liberia’s inclusion into the US short-term program to solve global food shortage.
Ambassador McCarthy said Liberia is one of several countries to benefit from the Feed the Future Program, as Russia’s aggression on Ukraine continues.
In an interview on the Super Morning Show Thursday, October 20, 2022, the US Ambassador said:” The program is a leeway to fighting food insecurity and hunger. In the long-term, the US Government has been working to build the resilience of food systems, help farmers boost production and the most vulnerable households among others.”
According to him the Feed the Future Program will magnify and produce the desired results of the food and agriculture programs supported by the US over the years.
Meanwhile, Ambassador McCarthy has disclosed the inauguration of a twenty-million-dollar new agriculture program called Agribusiness Incubator in Development Activity to boost the private sector.
In another development, Ambassador McCarthy has warned that the United States will hold accountable politicians who proclaimed to be peaceful, but allow their supporters to engage in violence.
Ambassador McCarthy said” The upcoming 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections is significant to the peace, security and democracy of the Country.”
The US Ambassador said politicians who commit to peaceful conduct must also commit their followers to peace.
Ambassador Michael McCarthy stated that politicians who are unable to lead their political parties and followers are simply unable to lead the Country.
He said:” The US Government, as a champion of democracy and good governance, will not also sit idly and allow politicians bully the National Elections Commission (NEC). NEC will continue to enjoy the confidence of donor partners as an integrity institution.”
As Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine intensifies, so does global food shortage.
