MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia joins other countries of the world to celebrate United Nations Day today.
UN Day is celebrated on October 24 every year by member states.
The day marks the official establishment of the United Nations in 1945.
On October 24, 1945, the UN Charter was ratified by majority of the countries, leading to the official establishment of the UN.
The day was first celebrated in 1948.
The UN, in 1971, recommended that member states observe day as a public holiday.
According to a release, the day in Liberia is being officially commemorated today, Monday, October 24, 2022.
The Day is used to elevate UN endeavors and work by engaging high-level policy-makers, the international community, civil society, and the public around critical global issues and the Sustainable Goals.
Meanwhile, President George Weah, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Heads of UN Agencies will attend this year’s UN Day celebration.
