MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has reiterated his commitment to peaceful, free and fair elections.
He welcomed the support of the UN and the international community in echoing such message, and holding his government and other political stakeholders accountable to ensure that peace prevails.
President Weah added that after over 10 years, a new national census enumeration process has begun.
He said the UN is a major partner to the government on the census, whilst lauding not only UNFPA, but also the key donor partners including World Bank, Sweden, USAID, and Ireland.
President Weah hailed these partners for the outstanding partnership and financial contributions, which he said are helping to make the census possible.
He further called for a stronger and deeper involvement of the UN in coordinating sub-regional programming in the Mano River Union.
President Weah said:” The sustenance of peace and stability in the sub-region requires an integrated approach in promoting good governance, economic development, and strengthened state-civil society relations.”
The Liberian Leader believes the UN can and must play a role in helping to facilitate the peace process.
