MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has hailed the collaboration of the Liberian Government and partners, to establish the Medical PSA Oxygen Plant at the Star Base on Bushrod Island.
President lauded the WHO, and the Governments of Germany, the United States and Canada for supporting Liberia in combating COVID-19, and strengthening the health system.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, during the dedication of the Oxygen Plant, he described support from partners as timely and one that will protect the Country against future public health threats.
The Liberian Leader said:” In addition to the plant, the Ministry of Health has also prepared to roll out a plan for the establishment of eleven more oxygen plants across the Country.”
President Weah said the initiative represents his Government’s commitment to ensure the provision of adequate health services to the people.
President George Weah said:” The general goal is to increase access to universal health coverage, and protect citizens from public health threats under the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development.”
Also speaking, World Health Organization Country Representative, Dr. Peter Clement, said:” Lessons learnt from recent disease outbreaks highlighted the critical need to build resilient health system.”
Dr. Clement said this is why the WHO will continue to support the Liberian Government, through the Ministry of Health, in building an effective delivery that will enhance better outcomes.
The WHO Country Representative said the WHO also supported the renovation of the building hosting the plant and provided 150 KVA Generator for the facility.
As part of the commissioning of the PSA Plant, twenty local biomedical technicians and operators were recently trained by the Foxolution Technical Team from South Africa.
The project was triggered by the multiple shocks suffered by Liberia, including the Ebola Virus Disease and the COVID-19 pandemic.
