MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Leader, George Weah, has once more reaffirmed his commitment to accepting the will of the Liberian people at the upcoming October 10 polls.
President Weah said:” The October election is a test of Liberia’s democratic credentials.”
Delivering his Sixth annual message on Monday, January 30, 2023, in the Joint Chamber of the National Legislature, the Liberian Leader said the October Election is a test that Liberia can and will pass.
He described the Presidential and General Elections as a defining moment, which the world will be watching to see to what extent Liberians are capable of taking their own destiny.
President Weah then warned against acts of electoral violence and urged parties to make effective use of the rule of law to solve any electoral disputes.
At the same time the Liberian Chief Executive has instructed that the salaries of fifteen-thousand civil servants exceed the minimal wage of one-hundred-fifty United States Dollars.
The President’s latest mandate is consistent with the Decent Work Act of Liberia, focusing on Labor best practices, adding that it is totally unacceptable for civil servants to earn below the minimal wage.
He acknowledged the meaningful contributions of civil servants, saying that they deserve attractive salaries and benefits.
President Weah said:” My mandate cuts across various Government’s ministries and agencies, and employees’ salaries falling below the minimum wage will scale up beginning the next fiscal period.”
