MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has received the Letter of Credence from the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Liberia, Ambassador Christine Umutoni.
During a brief ceremony at the Executive Mansion on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, President Weah congratulated Madam Umutoni for her preferment and expressed optimism that her stay will enhance the long-standing cooperation between the UN and Liberia.
President Weah reflected on Liberia’s role in the formation of the UN several years ago, while lauding Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez for the excellent role he continues to play in upholding and promoting the values and integrity of the world today.
The Liberian Leader then assured the new UN Resident Coordinator of his unflinching support towards the successful discharge of her tour of duties in Liberia.
Meanwhile, Madam Umutoni has pledged to continue to promote the existing partnership between Liberia and the world body.
She said:” Excellent partnerships are crucial to the attainment of the goals of the UN in Liberia.”
The Executive Mansion said Ambassador Umutoni conveyed special greetings from Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez and thanked President Weah for the warm reception.
Madam Umutoni described the Liberian Leader as an inspiration, not only to the youth of Liberia but also to the entire world.
Ms. Umutoni, a Rwandan, replaces Mr.Niels Scott, whose tenure as UN Resident Coordinator in Liberia has ended.
