MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Minister of Health, Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, says her attention has been drawn to a series of social media reports insinuating that she is aware and responsible, for cases of deaths resulting from women giving birth at the Women of Hope Clinic, in Paynesville.
The social media posters are calling for a prompt and thorough investigation of the Minister concerning the alleged poor handling of cases at the clinic, which they believe she owns and runs.
But in a release issued recently, Dr. Jallah clarified that she no longer runs the day-to-day affairs of the clinic, since her appointment as Minister of Health by President George Weah in 2018.
The release added that the decision to relinquish the administrative role at the clinic was made to address claims that running the clinic while serving as a minister would have been a conflict of interest, though she established her clinic before becoming Minister of Health.
The release quotes the Minister of Health as saying it is totally callous and underserving for people to politicize the situation of a family in pain, rather than expressing deep feelings and sympathy for the loss of human life.
The Health Minister has, meanwhile, expressed profound sympathy to the bereaved family, and said:” The appropriate authority will launch a thorough investigation into the situation”.
