MONROVIA, LIBERIA-More than two million people have registered to vote in the October 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections.
The National Elections Commission (NEC) puts the exact figure at two-million-four-hundred-seventy-one-thousand-six-hundred-seventeen voters.
The figure was contained in data from the final voter roll released on Monday, July 17, 2023, by the NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah.
The release of the statistics followed the conclusion of what Commissioner Browne-Lansanah called de-duplication and adjudication of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) provisional roll.
She, however, disclosed that the details on the disaggregation of the figures will be made available to the public in the coming days.
In a related development, NEC has released the number of aspirants who submitted nomination documents to the Commission.
Speaking on Monday, July 17, 2023, in Monrovia at a news conference, Madam Browne-Lansanah said one-hundred–fifty-nine are females constituting fifteen percent, while eight-hundred-seventy-one are males, representing eighty-five percent.
She disclosed that one-hundred-ninety-nine are independent aspirants, constituting nineteen percent, while eight-hundred-thirty-one political party aspirants account for eighty-one percent.
Meanwhile, a provisional list of candidates will be published on Tuesday, July 18, and the final list will be published on August 5, 2023.
