MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s National Elections Commission has begun releasing preliminary results in the just-ended Presidential and Legislative Elections, beginning with Montserrado and Bomi Counties.
Announcing the results on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in Monrovia, NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown-Lansanah, said:” In Bomi County the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) obtained one-thousand-one-hundred-thirty-four votes, constituting thirty-three percent, while the Unity Party (UP) got two-thousand-five-hundred-seventy-six votes, constituting forty-seven percent.”
The NEC Boss, however, insisted that the NEC is the only legitimate body responsible for officially releasing election results in the country, and called on those engaged in pre-victory celebrations in the absence of NEC results to desist.
Madam Davidetta Brown-Lansanah disclosed that the National Elections Commission will release the results of the elections on a daily basis to keep the people of Liberia abreast of the election results.
At the same time, the Commission has disclosed that polling will take place in areas affected by flood in Sinoe County in the coming days.
Voting did not take place in two key areas of the county on polling day, because materials could not reach the affected areas ahead of Election Day.
NEC has attributed the situation to heavy rains which cause a major river to overflow its banks, making roads impassable.
However, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Brown-Lansanah, said:” A team has been dispatched to assist the local magistrate office in conducting the elections.”
Madam Brown-Lansanah also said:” Voting took place at all polling centers in Rivercess on Tuesday, except for one where voting took place on Wednesday.”
