MONROVIA, LIBERIA (Jonathan Grigsby Reports) – The National Media Council says it will not condone acts of disrespect of its authority by journalists, refusing to appear at its hearings to settle disputes.
A release issued Friday, January 31, 2020 quotes the Council as warning media practitioners or institutions engaged such practice to desist or face consequence of non-compliance.
It, however, vowed to hear matters in absentia and recommendations made as mandated by its Framework.
Part IV (a) of the Council’s Operational Framework empowers the body to mediate matters arising from the violation of the Press Union of Liberia Code of Ethics for Liberian Journalists.
The mandate also requires that the Council levies fine, demands retractions, requires apologies, as well as names and shames violators of the Code of Ethics for Liberian Journalists.
