MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Monrovia City Court has sent to prison a twenty-six-year-old suspected murderer awaiting court trial.
Recently, Defendant Aruna Jah reportedly stabbed to death Alison Jackson, the son of journalist Clarence Jackson of Okay FM, in Unity Community in Virginia, Montserrado County.
According to reports, the incident took place during a serious quarrel between Aruna’s sister, Miama, and her friend, Jenne.
Defendant Aruna told police that he got involved in the misunderstanding after he reportedly overheard Jenne raining insults on his mother.
He accused the late Allison Jackson of supporting Miama’s insults to his mother, triggering his action which led to the tragedy.
At the same time, jurors at Civil Law Court on Tuesday, October 18, 2023, ruled in favor of former Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI) President, Francis Dennis.
In 2022, Defendant Francis Dennis filed a two million US Dollar lawsuit against former LBDI President, Deo Delaney and the Bank for action of damages for slander and libel in a twenty-five count action.
Mr. Dennis accused the respondents of engaging in a slanderous and libelous campaign against him over his indebtedness to LBDI Bank.
But, jurors on Tuesday ruled that defendant Deo Delaney be held liable for the damages claimed by complainant Francis Dennis.
However, defensive lawyers took an exception to the jurors’ verdict, as they are considering a motion for a new trial ahead of Judge Kennedy Peabody’s final judgment in the coming days.
Still, at the courts, Criminal Court ‘A’ Judge, Roosevelt Willie, has ordered an investigation into the reported attack on defendant Rebecca Wisner by inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison.
Judge Willie’s decision followed an application filed by Defense Lawyers, alleging that their client was attacked in the cell on October 12, 2023, by one of the four inmates.
The Court has instructed the Clerk to communicate with the prison authorities through the Assistant Justice Minister for Corrections, to conduct the investigation and submit findings to the Court on October 23, 2023.
But, in resistance, the Prosecution argued that the Court has no written document from prison authorities, confirming an attack on an inmate.
