MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Elections Commission (NEC) has declared former Vice President, Joseph Boakai, winner of the November 14 Presidential Run-Off Election.
The Unity Party (UP) Standard Bearer obtained 814, 481 votes, amounting to 50.64 percent, while incumbent President George Weah, got 793,914 votes, constituting 49.36 percent.
The declaration followed the announcement of the final results from the Presidential Run-Off by the NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne-Lansanah on Monday, November 20, 2023.
A total of one million, six hundred, and thirty-four thousand, one hundred eighty-three people voted in the Presidential Run-Off, amounting to 66.12 percent of the registered voters.
The ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and Unity Party (UP) faced off in the second round after none of the twenty candidates received the fifty percent plus one vote required to win in the first round.
President George Weah last week congratulated President-elect, Joseph Boakai after it became clear that the CDC could no longer overtake the votes obtained by Ambassador Boakai.
