Amb. Boakai Sworn in as Liberia’s 26th President

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The new President of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, has been sworn in as Liberia’s 26th President.

President Boakai was sworn in along with former Nimba County Senator, Jeremiah Koung, as Vice President on Monday, January 22, at the Capitol.

The Oath of Office was administered by Chief Justice, Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh.

Monday’s transition brings to three the number of peaceful transfers of power since the end of the civil unrest in the country.

Meanwhile, President Joseph Boakai has ruled out what he calls “Business as usual” and warned against diverting the resources of government works for all Liberians.

He said:” I have come to the Presidency to fight corruption in low and high places, promote the rule of law, form a government of inclusion, forge economic development, improve health, and education, and address crimes and insecurity as well as promote a just society for all.”

At the same time, President Boakai has paid tributes to Liberians for voting for change.

He said:” My election by Liberians and the Unity Party (UP) is a loud and clear message that the people need improvement in every sector of the Liberian society.”

Ambassador Boakai said he is now President for all Liberians, adding that the partnership must end, as it is time for all to work together in moving the country forward.

The new Liberian President pledged to run a coordinated and responsible government of national renewal of trust and credibility.

President Joseph Boakai called on Liberians to unite and collaborate for the development of the country.

Meanwhile, Liberia’s Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh has challenged President Joseph Boakai to uphold and defend the Liberian Constitution without fear or favor.

The Chief Justice said:” The President is under constitutional oath to protect and defend the fundamental rights of the Liberian people.”

Justice Yuoh made the remarks when she administered the oath of office to Liberia’s 26th President, Joseph Boakai, at the Capitol in Monrovia on January 22, 2024.

Justice Yuoh also urged President Boakai to cherish and uphold the rule of law and do nothing to undermine any provision of the Constitution of Liberia.

At the same time, the third Liberian female Chief Justice challenged Vice President Jeremiah Koung to protect and defend the Constitution and laws of Liberia.
