MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United States Office of Global Justice has congratulated President Joseph Boakai for the establishment of an office of a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.
A dispatch quotes US Ambassador-At-Large for Global Criminal Justice, Beth Van Schaack, as terming the move as a significant step towards building a rule of law-driven society.
Madam Schaack noted that Liberians have lived in the shadow of impunity for several war-era crimes, and expressed confidence that justice for the war victims will be served.
The US Justice Envoy also assured of working along with the US Embassy in Monrovia and other partners to support Liberia’s endeavors.
Madam Schaack also recognized the efforts of civil society actors, the Bar Association, victims and survivors, as well as members of the National Legislature, for keeping the dream of justice alive.
