MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested a motorcyclist for illegal possession of a Single Barrel Gun, along with two rounds.
An LNP release said the firearm and rounds were discovered with suspect Christian Smith at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, while seeking medication after he ran into a moving vehicle at the Vamoma Checkpoint, sustaining fractured heel, knee, and ankle, respectively.
According to the release, the accident took place while the motorcyclist was escaping police arrest, after reportedly running into the Vamoma Checkpoint.
Meanwhile, suspect Smith is in police custody while undergoing treatment, awaiting investigation.
Meanwhile, the LNP has declared a night curfew for motorcyclists in Monrovia and its environs.
Police Inspector General, Col. Gregory Coleman said:” The move is geared toward tackling criminal activities during night hours.”
Col. Coleman told a joint press conference over the weekend that no motorcycle will ply the streets at 11 PM.
The Police IG also noted that the measure is part of the LNP’s strides to enhance public safety.
Col. Gregory Coleman called on motorcyclists to comply with the Liberia National Police’s “No Go Zone” restrictions.
