INDONESIA-The Ministry of Agriculture and Global Harvest have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support agriculture development processes in Liberia.

Global Harvest is an Indonesian-based privately owned agricultural company that uses technology to produce organic fertilizer.

Liberia’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Alexander Nuetah, disclosed that the MoU between the Ministry and the Indonesian Company was signed at the end of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali.

Minister Nuetah said: “The first step of the MoU will see a team of technicians from Indonesia arrive in Liberia to conduct a feasibility study on Liberia’s coal potential”.

The Liberian Agriculture Minister spoke with ELBC in Beijing, China on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

Minister Nuetah noted that he met his counterpart in Indonesia and agreed in principle for the Indonesia Ministry of Agriculture to scale up rice production in Liberia.

At the same time, Minister Alexander Nuetah has urged Liberians to be patient as President Joseph Boakai continues to rekindle Liberia’s relations with other nations.

He said: “While the government understands Liberians’ quest for tangible returns from ongoing bilateral engagements, discussions at various global forums are progressing”.

Minister Nuetah underscored discussions with the Tropical Agriculture Training Institute of Nigeria and its efforts in transforming seeds and coffee production at the Central Agriculture Research Institute (CARI).

The Liberian Agriculture Minister noted that the Liberian Government is making steady progress with its partners including the Chinese and Indonesian governments to provide training opportunities for Liberians in Agriculture and other sectors.
