Nat’l Public Health Institute of Liberia’s Reference Library Confirms First Monkeypox Case in Lofa County

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Reference Library of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has confirmed the first case of the Monkeypox disease in Lofa County.

The County’s Acting County Health Officer, Edmond Essah, said:” The confirmed case involved a two-year-old boy who was earlier diagnosed with fever in Yeala Town, Zorzor District.”

The child had roaches and suffered body pain.

ELBC Correspondent said another suspected case has been reported in Voinjama, where specimens have been sent to the lab in Monrovia for testing.

Meanwhile, the Lofa County Health Team has reactivated the Incident Management System to create awareness across the County.
