MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. Fonati Koffa has adjourned its extraordinary sitting following the recast of the National budget.

The Special Session was recently convened to discuss issues of national concern.

According to ELBC Legislative Reporter, the key to the re-convergence was the recast and other critical legislation.

Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives are expected to return on October 15 for the Third Quarter.

At the same time, Cllr. Koffa is proposing the revision and amendment of the Public Financial Management Law of 2009.

He said:” Such revision will ensure corrections are made to ensure internal control and proper oversight. The measure is key to harness accountability, foster transparency, and inclusive governance.”

Speaker Koffa spoke on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, following the adjournment of the Extraordinary Session at the Capitol in Monrovia.

Cllr. Fonati Koffa said the revision of the PFM Law will also promote proper alignment of the budget line and ensure adjustments are made with the approval of the National Legislature.

Still at the National Legislature, the House Committee Chair on Education and Public Administration, Romeo Quiah, has expressed the urgent need for greater accountability and transparency in the country’s Education System.

Representative Quiah said budgetary allotment and support alone will not improve the system.

The Sinoe County District-One Representative was speaking on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at an Alternative Resource Mobilization to Fund Education organized by USAID, DAI, and CENTAL.

The Sinoe County Lawmaker said:” The National Legislature allotted one-hundred-nine million US Dollars to education, which is critical to addressing some of the challenges confronting the Sector.”

Meanwhile, Representative Romeo Quiah has reaffirmed the National Legislature’s commitment to supporting education through budgetary allotment, emphasizing that while budgetary support is key, stakeholders must be accountable to ensure value for money.
