by Administrator

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Commissioner of the Independent Information Commission (IIC) is calling on heads of ministries and agencies of the Liberian Government to adhere to the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.

Joash Hodges said:” By implementing requirements in the FOI Law, the Government ministries, agencies, and private bodies would be promoting the public‘s right to access information.”

Commissioner Hodges recommended the appointment of a staff to serve as a Public Information Officer (PIO) and establish an Internal Information Request Review Body as required under Chapters Six and Three of the FOI Act.

He said ministries and agencies should establish and maintain regularly updated and widely accessible user-friendly publication schemes such as websites and social media outlets, as mandated by the law.

Commissioner Joash Hodges made the statement on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at an official program marking the observance of International Day of Universal Access to Information.
