MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday held two separate sessions at the Capitol in Monrovia.

A group of opposition lawmakers comprising forty-three Representatives held session in the Joint Chambers of the National Legislature.

According to ELBC Legislative Reporter, the aggrieved lawmakers were presided over by Margibi County District-Five Representative, Clarence Gahr, while embattled Speaker Fonati Koffa, however, presided over another group of thirty lawmakers.

Both sessions were held under tense security presence.

The opposition lawmakers have vowed not to sit under Speaker Koffa’s gavel.

The forty-three lawmakers are seeking the removal of Speaker Fonati Koffa over series of allegations, including conflict of interest.

According to them, Speaker Koffa has lost the moral and legal authority to preside.

Meanwhile, Speaker Fonati Koffa has neither denied nor confirmed the allegations levied against him. He is, however, calling for an amicable resolution of the stand-off at the Capitol.
