MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) has turned over its comptroller and several others to the Liberia National Police (LNP) for investigation for alleged financial malpractice.
It followed an investigative report from the Internal Audit Agency disclosing that the LRRRC Comptroller and others allegedly forged signatures and altered financial documents during the recent repatriation of Liberian refugees from Ghana.
The LRRRC Executive Director Patrick Worzie told the MICAT Press Briefing on Tuesday, October 22,2024, that the investigation also established that the Comptroller and others reportedly cashed cheques and facilitated blackmailing during the repatriation exercise.
Mr. Worzie has since described the alleged action as fraudulent, saying the act undermines the institution’s zero tolerance policy for corrupt practices and the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda.
The LRRRC Executive Director has vowed to work along with the Liberia National Police and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission to ensure that those involved in the act will face the full weight of the law.
