Gov. of Liberia, EU to Hold 12th Session of Joint Implementation Committee Meeting

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia and the EU are set to hold the 12th Session of the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) Meeting from November 26-28, this year at the Monrovia City Hall.

The meeting is the main decision-making forum of the Liberia-EU Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT), Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) which aims to curb illegal logging, bolster law enforcement and promote sustainable development.

The Liberian Government will host the meeting involving the participation of senior government officials from relevant government ministries and agencies, alongside delegates from the EU to Liberia and the European Commission.

Key partners and stakeholders involved in forest-related projects have also been invited to observe the proceedings, including civil society organizations, private industry, and the representatives of communities.

The two-day event will facilitate comprehensive discussions on the state of forest governance in Liberia, emphasizing the collective responsibility and concerted efforts required to achieve sustainable forestry management.

The Chairman of the Board of the Forestry Development Authority, Philip Parker, and the Head of Delegation of the EU to Liberia, Nona Deprez, will co-chair the opening and closing sessions of the meeting.

Meanwhile, the 12th Liberia-EU Joint Implementation Committee meeting is expected to culminate in the signing of an Aide Memoire, summarizing the major discussions and decisions reached during the meeting.
