Nat’l Aids Commission, Partners Announce Activities for World AIDS Day 2024

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Aids Commission and partners have officially announced activities ahead of this year’s World AIDS Day to be observed across the globe.

The Day is celebrated on December 1 each year to unite in the fight against HIV, and to show support for people living with HIV, including those who have died.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, November 20,2024, in Monrovia, the Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Cecelia Nuta, said:” The 36th World AIDS Day places emphasis on harnessing thee significant progress made through the global and domestic HIV programs over the years.

Dr. Nuta disclosed that this year’s World AIDS Day will be celebrated under the global theme: “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress”, and a national theme:” One Goal, One Fight:” Ending AIDS Together in Liberia.”

However, Liberia will officially celebrate the day on December 2, with a week-long activities and climax with an indoor program at the Invisible Park.

Meanwhile, Dr. Cecelia Nuta said the National AIDS Commission, with support from UNAIDS, has begun the development of a National HIV Sustainability Roadmap of the country.

Madam Nuta said:” The National HIV Sustainability Roadmap is intended to sustain gains made to the HIV response beyond 2030 as the country anticipates drawdown of donor support.”

She explained that Liberia remains upbeat to transforming HIV response to a more sustainable response through increase domestic financing for a sustained HIV response as outlined in the updated National HIV and AIDS strategic Plan 2021 to 2026.

Dr. Cecelia Nuta lauded partners for their full support in ensuring that Liberia eradicates Aids by 2030.
