MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable fisheries management.
President Boakai said:” Regional cooperation in the Fishery Sector plays a pivotal role in ensuring food security, creation of jobs, and contributes towards economic growth.”
According to the Liberian Leader, the health of marine ecosystems directly impacts the prosperity and stability of all nations.
President Boakai was speaking on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the 15th Ministerial Conference of the Fisheries Committee for the West and Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC).
He said:” The gathering serves as an opportunity for member countries to reflect on the progress made, identify challenges, and explore solutions to safeguard the future of the Fishery Sector.”
President Boakai commended the FCWC Team for their unwavering dedication to advancing regional cooperation and collaboration in fostering sustainable fisheries management over the years.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has lauded the efforts of development partners, including the World Bank, European Union, and the Food and Agriculture Organization for their crucial role in protecting Liberia’s fisheries.
The Liberian Leader said:” The partners’ financial and technical support has been indispensable in building and strengthening the country’s Fishery Industry.”
According to him, the assistance rendered throughout the years has strengthened Liberia’s resilience, improved the health of marine ecosystems, and enhanced the livelihoods of the people who depend on it.
The President also called for continued collaboration and assistance in leading efforts to end illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing among member countries.
