MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has suspended, indefinitely, the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Davidetta Browne-Lansanah.
An Executive Mansion release issued recently said Madam Browne-Lansanah was suspended for unilaterally closing the head offices of the NEC for one month.
The release further disclosed that the decision was reached after the NEC Chairperson reportedly dismissed twenty-five employees without the knowledge or approval of the entity’s Board of Commissioners, as required by law.
President Boakai said:” The recent action by Madam Browne-Lansanah has the tendency to create a toxic working environment and undermine the NEC’s ability to conduct the country’s upcoming by-elections.
Meanwhile, President Joseph Boakai has reaffirmed the Liberian Government’s commitment to ensure transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law in all institutions.
