Monrovia City Court to Entertain Legal Arguments…

by Fabine W. Kwiah

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Monrovia City Court is expected to entertain legal arguments today, Wednesday, to a petition filed by defense lawyers, seeking preliminary investigations for two suspects in the arson attack at the Capitol.

Cllr. Jonathan Massaquoi, defense lawyer, has questioned the police’s evidence, implicating suspects Thomas Etheridge and Eric Susay in the act, maintaining that the police wrongfully indicted his clients.

Cllr. Massaquoi said:” Their request is seeking the evidence used to charge the defendants as provided by Chapter 12, Section 12.3 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

The law states that a preliminary examination shall be given to the defendant after his appearance before the Magistrate or Justice of the Peace only if he requests it.

Wednesday’s legal proceedings will compel prosecuting lawyers led by prosecuting lawyers led by Montserrado County Attorney, Cllr. Richard Scott, to surrender the evidence in court, that led to suspects Thomas Etheridge and Eric Susay’s charges, and have since been incarcerated at the Monrovia Central Prison.

They were charged with multiple offenses ranging from arson, criminal attempt to commit murder, theft of property, and criminal mischief, among others.
