Montserrado County Health Team Concludes Month-Long Cancer Awareness Campaign

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Montserrado County Health Team has concluded a month-long cervical cancer awareness campaign targeting high schools, universities, clinics, hospitals, and churches in the Country.

According to a Health Ministry release, the campaign is aimed at educating the public on cervical and breast cancer prevention, improving access to life-saving screenings, and promoting early detection which is crucial to saving lives.

The release quotes Montserrado County Health Officer, Dr. Jewel Kollie, as saying the Ministry is embarking on the awareness campaign to enhance proactive patient engagement, ensuring that routine medical visits become opportunities for impactful education and trust-building.

Dr. Kollie, in the release, said:” Early detection is critical in improving survival rates, urging every Liberian to join the fight to reduce the cancer burden by making informed health choices, encouraging regular screenings, vaccination and advocating for better healthcare policies.”

The Montserrado County Health Officer encouraged women between the ages of 25 to 60 to take advantage of the free cervical cancer screenings available at four major health facilities

The facilities include JFK Hospital in Sinkor, Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town, JDJ Hospital in Nimba County, and the Duport Road Health Center in Paynesville.

The free cervical cancer screenings will run from February 19 to 28, this year.
