MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia is expected to officially launch its local campaign for a Non-Permanent Seat on the UN Security Council today, Monday, February 10.

The Co-Chairman of the Steering Committee, Reginald Goodridge, disclosed that President Joseph Boakai will lead an array of government officials to the Centennial Memorial Pavilion in Monrovia for the launch.

Mr. Goodridge said:” The program is intended to sensitize Liberians about the potential benefits the country gets as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

According to Mr. Goodridge, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Liberia will represent the interests of African nations on critical issues about migration, climate change, gender equality, conflicts, humanitarian crises, and terrorism.

He added that Liberia stands to benefit from global recognition, attract foreign direct investments, and experience improvement in the livelihood of its citizens.

Liberia last served on the UN Security Council in 1961 and became the voice for African liberation and independence, peace, security, and stability around the globe.
