MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The World Food Program (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have reportedly notified the Agriculture Ministry that they can no longer fund three projects valued at over eighteen million US dollars.
WFP and FAO attributed their action to President Donald Trump’s directive to temporarily freeze all programs funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Agriculture Minister Alexander Nuetah disclosed that the ministry has already lost eighteen million dollars for the projects.
Dr. Nuetah said:” There is a need to source funding through other means, like the African Development Bank and concession companies, to invest in the agriculture sector.
The agriculture minister is also encouraging non-governmental organizations in the agriculture sector to begin exploring the possibility of contacting other international non-governmental organizations for assistance to continue their projects.
