MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Health Ministry has initiated a two-month community engagement aimed at preventing substance use in Montserrado and Grand Bassa Counties.
According to a Health Ministry release issued on Friday, February 21, 2025, the effort is part of the National Fight Against Drug and Substance Abuse, headed by the Mental Health and Health Promotion Units, in collaboration with the County Health teams.
The release said over the past two weeks, the Ministry has conducted advocacy meetings and intensive training sessions for community health workers.
These trained professionals, according to the release, will engage in door-to-door awareness activities, educating residents on the dangers of substance use and promoting healthier alternatives.
The release noted that the campaign is being funded by UNICEF under the National Drug and Substance Abuse Program.
Meanwhile, the Multi-Sectoral Committee on Drugs and Substance Abuse has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sustained efforts in reducing substance abuse and its impact on communities.
