MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has suspended Goods and Services Tax on international travels and replaced it with a fixed levy on airline tickets for passengers departing Liberia.

The move is by Executive Order Number 142 as part of the Liberian Government’s commitment to strengthen revenue mobilization.

An Executive Mansion release issued recently says the new measure aims at minimizing revenue leakages, ensuring a more transparent and efficient collection process, and sustaining economic growth.

The Liberian Leader, in the release, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to sound financial governance and ensuring that the government revenues are effectively managed for national development.

The release called on stakeholders and those concerned to cooperate in the implementation of the new measure for the collective benefit of the country’s economy.

At the same time, President Boakai has issued Executive Order Number 143 to safeguard Liberia’s coastal and wetland environments.

The government terms the initiative as a commitment towards protecting the country’s natural resources, mitigating environmental degradation, and ensuring public health and economic sustainability.

The Executive Order also seeks to curb harmful activities such as pollution, erosion, and climate change that threaten marine and global ecosystems.

President Boakai emphasized that the unchecked encroachment and pollution of wetlands, waterways, and beachfront pose a significant risk to the environment and livelihood of all Liberians.

Meanwhile, a task force, chaired by the Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Co-Chaired by several agencies of the Government of Liberia has been established to ensure coordinated action and sustainable environmental management.
