North Central Alliance Backs Former Speaker Koffa’s Removal

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A Regional Citizen Movement, North Central Alliance (NCA) has backed the removal of Cllr. Fonati Koffa from the Speakership of the House of Representatives, citing more political than legal justification.

In a release issued on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Monrovia, the NCA said the removal of Cllr. Koffa from the post is acceptable under the Political Question Doctrine, as Koffa no longer enjoys the confidence of the majority members of the House of Representatives.

The NCA believes that the Supreme Court’s ruling in the removal case suggested that the parties return to the House and politically handle their matter, which applies to the House’s rules and tradition on the required members for conducting sessions.

The NCA, comprising Citizen Movement from Gbarpolu, Bong, Lofa, Margibi, and Nimba Counties, strongly supports the election of Richard Koon as Speaker and calls out to the other side of the divide to get on board and do the Liberian people’s job.

The release, signed by NCA Secretary General, Moses Kwehai, and its President, Cllr. J. Allison Barco is in the same vein, admonishing Speaker Richard Koon to reconcile the House as a remedy for good governance.

The NCA believes such a reconciliatory process must not be cosmetic, but rather inclusive for a genuine solution to the stalemate.

The Movement is also recommending the inclusion of Cllr. Koffa and team on Foreign Travels, participation in key decision-making at the House of Representatives, as well as representation on international legislative bodies.
