MARGIBI COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Senate Committee Chairman on Education, Nathaniel McGill, has convened a meeting with the faculty and Workers’ Union of the Booker Washington Institute surrounding the recent go-slow action staged by workers of the Institution demanding a salary increment.
During the meeting, the BWI Workers’ Union Head, David Moore, said:” Salary disparity is among several other issues that triggered their recent action.
Mr. Moore also added that the Union is resolved to embark on another action in the county if nothing is done to address the situation.
He, however, committed to engaging the Liberian Government in handling the matter, thus calling on Senator McGill to buttress their efforts at the Senate discussion and implementation.
Meanwhile, Senator McGill assured the Union that he would do whatever he could to ensure that their grievances were redressed.
The Margibi Senator also emphasized the important role the BWI Staff plays in the development of Liberian students, urging them not to allow the situation to stop them from providing knowledge to the students.
He encouraged the staff and workers’ union to continue engaging with him, indicating that efforts to meet with other officials of the government to find an amicable solution to the challenges facing the institution will be made.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Senator Nathaniel McGill has committed to requesting his colleagues for an increase in the Booker Washington Institute’s budgetary allotment.
